Calling all motorists…
Did you know that since 2004 there have been over 300 collisions between the Luas and motor vehicles in Dublin, 95% of which have occurred solely on the Red Line?
One of the worst affected areas is the junction between Blackhall Place and Benburb Street (see below). So a new automated camera has been set up on the junction with the purpose of catching motorists that break the red light.
RTÉ News reports that anyone caught breaking the red light on Blackhall Place and Benburb Street will “automatically receive three penalty points and a fine of up to €120.”
The camera is directly linked to the Gardaí’s PULSE camera system and, much like a speed camera, it will automatically take a picture of the offending car if it’s found to be breaking the lights.
