“He was a giant of the sporting and broadcasting worlds.”
The tributes have begun to pour in for iconic, retired RTÉ broadcaster, Bill O’Herlihy who sadly passed away suddenly today aged 76.
Together with Eamon Dunphy, Johnny Giles and Liam Brady he anchored one of sport’s most celebrated punditry panels.
Giles, speaking to The Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk said, “It’s a shock. I was with Bill at a do a few weeks ago and he was right as rain, in good humour, as he usually was. It’s a shock and condolences to the family. He was out playing golf recently, very active and it’s a great shock for the family.”
The death has taken place of RTÉ broadcaster Bill O’Herlihy. "He was a giant of the sporting and broadcasting worlds," says DG Noel Curran.

So sad Bill O'Herlihy has passed away after retiring from RTE so recently. Two giants of broadcasting, Bill and Derek Davis, gone too soon.

Bill O'Herlihy & panel were like a panto. A music-hall act. With Bill the faux-naive instigator setting up the punchlines & pratfalls. RIP
