A terrible tragedy.

Comedian and actress Amy Schumer has said that her “heart is broken” following a shooting at a screening of her new film Trainwreck in America.

A gunman opened fire at The Grande Cinema in Layfette, Louisiana, killing two people and injuring several more before turning the gun on himself.

Schumer, who’s due to visit Ireland in August, took to Twitter to express her grief and sympathy.

Police said they know the gunman’s identity but are not releasing it yet, and described him as a 58-year-old “lone white male” who fired his handgun “numerous times” before killing himself.

The shooting took place almost three years after James Holmes opened fire at a screening of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Rises at a Denver cinema in 2012, killing 12 people and injuring 70 others.

Trainwreck, written by and starring Schumer in the lead role, is due for release in Irish cinemas on 14 August.
