Leo Varadkar has some big plans.
Ireland’s Minister for Health is proposing several major changes to the way alcohol is advertised in the country.
Alcohol advertisements will be banned from sports pitches in an effort to de-glamourise drinking. Drinks ads will also not be allowed on TV before 9pm.
The changes, which are part of the Public Health (Alcohol) Bill, will be put to the Cabinet soon.
This comes as an addition to many other proposed changes which include minimum pricing. Cans of beer will be sold for a minimum of €2, and bottles of wine for no less than €8.
Cans and bottles will also now carry health warnings similar to those on cigarette packages, informing drinkers that alcohol causes cancer and other health issues.
