After a poor day at Fairyhouse yesterday we look to Ascot and Perth for winners. JOE’s Daily Punts, in association with Boylesports.
2pts win – St Moritz – Ascot 3.05
The form of ST MORITZ is difficult to steer away from, given that this Dandy Nicholls five-year-old won in Listed company last time out at Doncaster and previous to that he saw off the challenge of Kings Gambit who darted home in front at Sandown on Saturday in a Group 3 event.
All of that bodes well for today’s task but giving weight all round here may cause a slight hiccup, if there is to be one. I don’t see it happening, however, as clearly this animal loves to be amongst smaller fields and has the turn of foot on this quick ground. The Andrew Balding-trained Side Glance needs to be given respect in this straight mile contest, however.
3pts win – Plan A – Perth 4.30
The class of PLAN A, which we didn’t see much of at Cheltenham and Aintree, must prevail at Perth today despite a worry that the ground is less than ideal for Gordon Elliott’s charge.
There were high hopes for this young gun at the Cheltenham Festival last month but he could only muster fourth place in the Fred Winter, won by What a Charm who disappointed punters at Fairyhouse yesterday.
Nonetheless, this type of race – a Class 3 Handicap Hurdle – is the perfect company for Elliott’s promising sort to bounce back and with Tony McCoy taking the ride there’ll be no excuses left when they get down to business.
