The claims were made by agents in the latest revelations in an investigation by The Telegraph.
Eight current or former Premier League managers are alleged to have taken ‘bungs’ for player transfers in the latest revelations from the investigation into corruption in English football by The Telegraph.
The allegations about managers who either currently manage or recently managed in the Premier League follow on from Sam Allardyce leaving his position as England manager after he was implicated in The Telegraph investigation on Monday night.
In the latest revelations in The Telegraph, undercover footage shows three football agents, including Pino Paglaria, who was banned from football for five years for match-fixing in 2005, make accusations that eight managers who currently manage or recently managed in the Premier League have accepted ‘bungs’ in relation to player transfers.
Paglaria described one well-known manager as “very bent” and said that another manager used the term “a little coffee” as a code for a backhanded payment he would request when a deal went through.
Of the eight managers accused of taking ‘bungs’ Paglaria and the other agents named five that they had personally paid off, while Paglaria is also heard to say: “I have opened so many Swiss bank accounts for managers that you wouldn’t believe.”
The Telegraph is set to publish more insights from their 10-month investigation in the coming days, including the disclosure of an assistant manager at a leading club who was filmed accepting a £5,000 cash payment from undercover reporters posing as representatives of a Far East firm that wanted to invest in players.
The Telegraph has agreed to give all relevant transcripts to the Football Association and has also passed information to the police.
