Sitting down to watch a game with a group of mates is one of life’s simple pleasures.

Unless of course, you’ve a mate who just doesn’t ‘get’ sports.

“Could you not just record it and watch it later?”

They don’t realise that their comments make it seem much longer too.

“Why are you shouting at the television? Neither the ref nor players can hear you?”

Nothing kills atmosphere like a dose of harsh realism.

“Could they not just give both teams a trophy?”

No, because that’s not how competition works.

“Why didn’t he just score that goal?”

It’s probably because you ask too many questions.

“And they get paid how much to do this?”

Actually, we can’t believe their salaries either.

“But you’re not from (insert team here), why do you support them?”

Please stop making sense non-sports fan.

“You may as well turn over now, they’re not going to win from that position.”

Even if this is true, no sports fan wants to hear it if they’re watching their team.

And this is when you realise, there’s zero point explaining.
