Officials at Newcastle United have asked Fabio Capello and the FA is they can withdraw in form Andy Carroll from the England squad.
Carroll picked up a groin injury in the Toon’s match against Fulham last weekend and his club are afraid he might aggravate it against France.
The 21-year-old has been named in Fabio Capello’s starting line-up but fears are he could face a lengthy spell on the side-lines if he is played.
The Newcastle number nine has had an outstanding season, scoring seven times in 13 Premier League appearances.
Manchester City’s Joe Hart, meanwhile, has been ruled out of the match with a back injury.
