Armenia enjoyed their first Group B win with a 3-1 result against a Slovakia who failed to have the luck they enjoyed against Russia.

The result is a boost Ireland’s campaign as the Republic of Ireland squad have already beaten Armenia in Yerevan as part of the qualifiers for the European Championship in the Ukraine and Poland in 2012.

Slovakia had previously beaten Russia in Moscow 0-1 and went into Friday’s game on equal points to table-toppers Ireland, both having notched up six points after two games.

Armenia’s Yura Movsisyan opened the score sheet for the home team after 23 minutes, but Slovakia equalised through Vladimir Weiss just before half-time.

The game, however, belonged to Armenia, with a close-range goal just after the break from Gevorg Ghazaryan followed by one from Henrik Mkhitaryan a minute before the full time whistle was blown.

Armenia now have four points from three games, while Slovakia still have six points.
