A lot of people are paying a lot of money to see it.
Many of you are probably heading across the water for the Rugby World Cup over the next few weeks and probably don’t need reminding of just how expensive a trip it could turn out to be.
The average price of a hotel in some of the tournament cities revealed last week was a bit of an eye-opener and research conducted by the excellent Nick Harris (@sportingintel) shows that when it comes to ticket prices, it’s the most expensive sporting event in history.
Harris has worked out that the average price for a match ticket in the upcoming tournament is £104.17 (approximately €142), slightly more expensive than a ticket for the next most expensive tournament, which just so happens to be the last Rugby World Cup, in New Zealand four years ago.

Adjusted for inflation, the average price of a match ticket for that tournament was approximately €138, proving a little bit more expensive than last year’s football World Cup in Brazil, the 2012 London Olympics, the 2007 Rugby World Cup and the 2014 Ryder Cup.
Expensive? Certainly, but sure if Ireland go on and win the bloody thing won’t it all have been worth it?
