Months after Bayern Munich defender was suspected of an arson attack on his own home, the Brazilian star was this week found guilty in a judicial review and may face ten years in prison.

In early September 2011, the player’s home burnt to the ground, while Breno – who was in the house at the time – was later taken to hospital for smoke inhalation. Thankfully the defender’s wife and kids were not at the house at the time of the fire.

When the news first hit District Attorney Thomas Steinkraus-Koch told Munich sports site TZ: “Based on the information we have, we believe that the fire was not an accident.”

After a fire report, it has been found that the 22-year-old former Sao Paulo player did indeed comitt the arson attack and now could be convicted to a maximum of 10 years in prison at a court hearing scheduled for late March or early April.

At the time of the arson attack, Breno was taken into custody for 12 days before being released on bail with strict conditions. If the player’s mental health issues are proven at the court hearing, however, Breno may avoid jail time due to a specific paragraph in German criminal law relating to such cases.
