Luke Fitzgerald was going, going…going nowhere it seems after despite being strongly linked with a move to Munster, he has penned a two-year deal with Leinster.

Earlier today rumours of a switch to Munster gathered pace when 98FM revealed that they had it on good authority that the Irish international was to leave the current Heineken Cup champions at the end of the season and join Munster, a story which was covered by various media last week.
Judging by the reaction on Twitter when the radio station stated that the winger was set to leave, Leinster fans will be delighted with Fitzgerald’s decision to stay for another two years. Heightened with the fact that they are already losing some key names for next season, with perhaps more to follow, it is reassuring news for all concerned with the Province.
“I’m delighted to commit my future here. It is hugely frustrating to miss the run-in to the campaign but I’m looking forward to beginning my rehab over the coming weeks and getting back in a blue shirt next season,” he announced in a statement on the Leinster site today.
Coach Joe Schmidt was equally delighted to have Fitzgerald sign on the dotted line.
“We are delighted that a player of Luke’s ability has committed his future to the province. At just 25, his best years are ahead of him and hopefully he’ll be back better than ever early next season.”
So after all that, it’s back to the treatment room for Fitzgerald as he recovers from his ACL injury, Leinster can breathe a sigh of relief that one of their stars has committed his future, while for Munster, it was a nice thought while it lasted.
