The Englishman won the race in 2012 but hasn’t competed at the event since.

Bradley Wiggins says he is probably done with the ‘cut-throat’ nature of road racing.

The 34-year-old won the Tour de France in 2012 but has declined to take part since, saying: “I’ve done the road now. I think I’ve bled it dry.”

Wiggins told the BBC that he is much happier on track and his next major target is a gold medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

He has not ruled out doing some road events but told the BBC: “That will probably be it for the Grand Tours. I can’t imagine doing that now.”

He added that he didn’t see a return to the track as a “step down.”
