The Northern Ireland U-21 international might be making the move to Glasgow just like former Candystripes Paddy McCourt and Niall McGinn.

The famed academy at the Brandywell could have another of their products make it big across the water after news emerged that Derry City midfielder Michael Duffy has been offered a trial at Scottish champions Celtic.

Duffy scored 11 goals in 29 league appearances for the Candystripes last year, including a hat-trick against UCD and the opener in the semi-final against Shamrock Rovers, while he played an integral part in their run to the FAI Cup Final.

There is some good news for Derry fans, however, because the club managed to tie him down to a new two-year contract so in the event that he moves the club will receive a fee.

Of course, the Glasgow giants were managed by one of Derry’s most famous sons ,Martin O’Neill, in the past and here’s hoping that Duffy gets to make a name for himself with the Scottish giants.

As well as McGinn and McCourt, Derry have also produced and sold James McClean, Stephen McLaughlin and David McDaid to clubs abroad in recent years. They know how to produce a decent player on Foyleside.
