Can Arsenal recover from such a crushing psychological blow?

All is not lost. After all, Arsenal didn’t lose and should still qualify for the next stage of the competition.

The big question is, can they recover from the psychological blow of not being able to hold onto a three goal lead against an average side from Belgium?

Their situation isn’t terrible, but it’s certainly not as good as it should be. The below picture epitomises how most Gunners must feel at the moment…

A lack of leadership on the pitch, poor transfer dealings off it and an inability to reach the next level in Europe is what frustrates most with Arsenal. Signing Alexis Sánchez is all well and good, but if you have to play either Mikel Arteta or Mathieu Flamini as your sitting midfielder then you’re not going to be winning titles.

Finishing second in the group stage to Dortmund is nothing to be ashamed of, but in recent years Arsenal haven’t been able to finish above sides such as Shakhtar, Sevilla and Porto.

After so many years dining at the top table, they simply have to do better…
