Will Grigg scored two goals yesterday as Wigan saw off Blackburn.
This morning, Goals on Sunday host Ben Shephard remarked: “If only there was a song to describe how well he’s playing right now.”
Shephard is of course referring to Will Grigg’s On Fire, the football chant sung by Wigan fans, Northern Ireland fans and now everyone in the world, to the tune of Gala’s Freed From Desire.
Chris Kamara, Shephard’s co-host spoke about the song’s prevalence at the Euros this summer, saying: “Me and my son were at the Italy-Sweden game in Toulouse and we stopped for a quick drink on the way into the stadium and there were Italian and Swedish fans all together singing Will Grigg’s On Fire.”
Guest Jonathan Woodgate immediately chipped in with a similar experience: “I was on a flight to Ibiza with my son and there was a hen party on, and they’re all going “Will Grigg’s on fire!””.
That’s when you know you’ve made it.
