After years of putdowns and respective demands from each fighter, we may finally have the date for the clash of the century between Floyd Mayweather Jnr and Manny Pacquiao – May 5, 2012.

That’s the date which Mayweather’s camps have reportedly chosen to book a slot at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and according to the WBC World Welterweight Champion’s advisor Leonard Ellerbe, he has just one opponent in mind.

“We’re looking to make the biggest fight possible and everyone knows what that fight is – the little fella,” Ellerbe told ESPN.com.

Some boxing pundits, however, have already claimed that Ellerbe’s comments are a PR stunt to knock Pacquiao’s concentration ahead of next week’s bout against Juan Manuel Marquez.

“Floyd made it very clear that he wants to give the fans the biggest fights that are out there. He wants to stay active,” added Ellerbe.

“We’re going to do everything in our power to make the biggest fight out there for the fans and we all know what the fight is.Floyd made it very clear to us what he wanted to do. He told us he is looking to make the biggest fight that is out there and to make it in May.”

All that we can say for now is that Mayweather will fight somebody this coming May, but considering the champ’s ultra-stringent pre-fight demands have halted their dream fight on numerous occasions, we’ll only believe it’s Pacquiao once the bell for Round 1 rings.
