Predicting the World Cup winner is a tough ask for anyone so we hope to come up with a bet that will give you the proverbial ‘run for your money’ right here.

We’ve scoured the World Cup betting markets in an effort to find you something that we hope will give you a decent run for your money at the greatest show on Earth. We have stumbled across the Top Goalscorer/Tournament Winner market. A lot of people are tipping Lionel Messi (pic above) as their man to be top scorer in Brazil. It’s not hard to see why as the diminutive Barcelona player scores goals for fun.

People are saying that he doesn’t transfer his club form to the international stage, but there are those who are of the opinion that Messi has finally found his rhythm with Argentina. That does not augur well for the other teams in the tournament, but maybe we will now see Messi show what he can do on the biggest stage of all. Despite being told he hasn’t done it on the international stage, he has still managed to score 38 goals in 86 matches for Argentina. Not bad for someone who hasn’t played well, eh?

We are tipping Messi to be top scorer and now we have to pair him with a team that we think will be holding that World Cup trophy aloft on Sunday, July 13th in Rio. For Messi to be top scorer and for his team, Argentina to win it, you can get odds of 16/1. However, as good as Argentina are, we still feel that it is the host nation that will be the team to beat. Brazil are playing on home soil in front of their passionate and vocal fans and this will be a big advantage to them

They come into the tournament having won the Confederations Cup last year which included the dismantling of current World Cup holders, Spain in the final. They walloped the Spanish 3-0 and will be brimming with confidence ahead of their opening match this Thursday night against Croatia. So with that in mind, we think Messi as top scorer but with Brazil as champions. For that to happen, you can get odds of 33/1 and that, we think represents fantastic value for money.
