Keith Andrews and Damien Duff will miss the Republic of Ireland’s next European Championship qualifier against Russia at the Aviva Stadium.

Blackburn’s Keith Andrews is ruled out with a groin injury, while Duff is ruled out with a calf injury.

“The news is not very good today. Damien Duff has had a scan and there is a little injury. It is 90 per cent he is not available [for both matches].

“A muscle injury is very dangerous. It is not easy to recover in eight days. He has pulled the muscle and there is a little blood showing on the scan, so we spoke to the doctor and he is going home.”

Trapattoni will not call up a direct replacement for Duff, however.

“We have enough wingers here,” he said, “With Stephen Kelly missing, we are a defender short, so we have called up Marc Wilson.”

Preston’s Keith Treacy will also miss the game with a persistent calf injury.
