JOE reviews the eighth edition of the Chaos Fighting Championships, which took place in the Millennium Forum in Derry on 12 February.

Chaos Fighting Championships held their 8th show in the Millennium Forum, Derry on February 12. The brainchild of Jason McCabe and John Rosborough, the promotion has enjoyed some success since its launch.
To highlight the fact, Chaos 8 took place in a venue twice the size of the location for previous shows. “The show was a great success and we were almost sold out with around 900 people in attendance,” commented Jason McCabe.
Big winners on the night were Mervin Mulholland (IFS), who took home the welterweight title, Conor McGregor (SBG), whose first round TKO earned him a title shot, and recently crowned Young Fighter of the Year at the Irish MMA Awards, Alan Philpot (IMMA), was victorious with a first round triangle choke submission.
“Conor McGregor was the outstanding performer. Hugh Brady has had some big fights and for me McGregor just outclassed him on the night,” said McCabe.
“Gregor Lenark (IMMA) won an incredible war with Ronan Boyle with a stunning knock-out. It is hard to judge though as I spend a good bit of time back stage at each event,” said McCabe.
Having also opened the Evolve Martial Arts gym in January 2008, Rosborough and McCabe are planning some more events for 2011 with Chaos 9 pencilled in for October or November of this year.
