Fantasy Football Insider Gameweek 23: Sort out your sicknotes

Have you pulled your winter wildcard yet? If not, it could come in handy in this Gameweek due to the number of sick notes being handed in across the Premier League.

Have you pulled your winter wildcard yet? If not, it could come in handy in this Gameweek due to the number of sick notes being handed in across the Premier League.

With the FA Cup commanding all of the attention at the weekend and what has been an extremely dry transfer window (so far – we’re holding out hope that Jim White will come alive on Sky Sports News) reaching its conclusion tonight, the games on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week could easily be overlooked by a sizeable amount of Fantasy managers.

As such, here’s a reminder to make whatever adjustments are needed to your team by 7.30 this evening and it could be a timely one given the amount of Fantasy Football regulars set to miss out.

A quick glance of the red ‘i’ boxes dotted around the page reveals that the likes of Nani, Frank Lampard, Phil Jones, John Terry and Ramires are definitely out, while there are further doubts over the participation of Gareth Bale, Wayne Rooney, Jermain Defoe and Demba Ba.

With the wildcard still available until Saturday morning, managers have the option of making wholesale changes, but with none of the major players suffering from injuries that are likely to sideline them for more than a couple of weeks, it’s not entirely necessary.

Keep an eye out for players from Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Spurs that might be struggling, however, because all four are involved in games against each other this weekend and if they are going to rest players, it will likely be against lesser opposition they will go up against over the next two nights.

JOE’s Fantasy Football Picks:

Top Dollar: Emmanuel Adebayor (£9.3 million). Spurs look to have the easiest task of all the top sides in action (at home to Wigan) and with doubts over Gareth Bale’s fitness, Adebayor might just be your man.

Mid-Range: Clint Dempsey (£8.7 million). They say he takes more shots than anyone in the Premier League, but with good reason too. There are not many mid-table midfielders that have scored nine goals this season, but Dempsey has and you get the feeling he’s far from done yet.

Bargain Basement: Jonny Evans (£4.5 million). He mightn’t be quite cut out for the top level, but with Jones and Vidic sidelined and weekly concerns over Rio Ferdinand’s fitness, he’ll get games and he’s very cheap.

Irish Pick: Robbie Keane (£5.0 million). Old Bob is flying it at the moment and added to his two crackers against Wolves with a lovely assist for Richard Dunne before Villa’s capitulation against Arsenal. QPR at home seems like an ideal opportunity for precious points.

Captain’s Pick: Antonio Valencia (£8.1 million). He’s been Man United’s biggest threat for the last two months or so and is an assists machine down the right wing. He pulls the same moves every time, but he’s so strong and quick that he’s very, very hard to stop.
