Gameweek 16 review

There was nothing particularly revolutionary about what happened in the Fantasy Premier League stakes this weekend. In fact, if you look at the standout performers in the Dream Team of the week, you might be forgiven for thinking you had been transported back in time to the Premier League circa 2007/2008.

With Brad Friedel (10 points) in goals, Martin Skrtel (15) in defence, Clint Dempsey (13) Michael Carrick (11) and Leon Osman in midfield and Craig Bellamy (10) up front all doing well, the Dream Team is dominated by players who have been there and done it for quite a few years.

Thankfully, Newcastle’s Davide Santon (9), Swansea’s Ashley Williams (9) and Fulham’s Bryan Ruiz (12 – P.S. Change the name on the back of your shirt Bryan, it looks crap) added some much-needed originality into the mix.

Special mention must also go to our captain’s tip for the weekend, David Silva (11 points), who proved to be the matchwinner in what was a pulsating game between City and Arsenal at the Etihad.

Champion J-League

Christmas may be the season of goodwill, but Champion J-League leader Neil Kelly is in no mood to share it as his Wet Bandits flew past the 1000 point barrier without having to worry too much about what’s in the rearview mirror.

A solid half century was Neil’s lot for the weekend, but fortunately for him, only two members of the top ten managed 60 points or more, so his position remains free from threat for another couple of days at least.

Solidity was the order of the day amongst the league leaders so there was precious little movement to speak of, although there is an almighty battle going on for fourth place, the final place in the J-League’s Champions League places if you will, with Clive Earley’s Derryowen Hawthorns, Kenneth Patterson’s Dirty Bagels and Jeff Roller’s Pro Contrarian all locked on 968 points.

Another week, another comfortable lead for Neil Kelly then, but with three gameweeks to come in the space of 12 days and all the pitfalls that come with the festive season (neglecting to change your team, making transfers while drunk etc.) Neil’s credentials ought to be given the ultimate test over the next fortnight and we’re sure the chasing pack will oblige.

Champion J-League Top 5:

1.       The Wet Bandits – Neil Kelly: 1,014 points

2.       A Great Bunch’a Lads – Conor Sheehy: 981 points

3.       Pallas United – Eoin Keane: 976 points

4.       Derryowen Hawthorns – Clive Earley, Dirty Bagels – Kenneth Patterson, Pro Contrarian – Jeff Roller: 968 points

5.       Hee Haw United – James Ward: 967 points
