This week’s fantasy football review features an apology for some poor advice dished out last week and a word of warning for cocky Champion J-League leader Robert Leavy.

Gameweek 5 review
First things first, an apology is in order. On these pages last week, I gave a glowing reference of the Stoke defence and was promptly repaid with a four goal concession against Sunderland at the weekend.
Needless to say, the Potters have yet to acclimatise to the demands of playing a league game following a short turnaround from a European fixture and no doubt Tony Pulis will have learned his lesson. I know I certainly have.
Getting that out of the way, at least some of my advice paid dividends as one tip, Sergio Aguero, once again came through with flying colours. Aguero’s two goals against Fulham at Craven Cottage returned 13 points for the little genius, a total that was shared by Blackburn striker Yakubu and Manchester United winger Nani, outstanding against Chelsea at Old Trafford.
That triumvirate were trumped by Sunderland pair Sebastian Larsson and Titus Bramble, who both scored against the aforementioned Stoke defence on Sunday and both scored 14 points, and they were joined in the dream team by Craig Gardner (11 points), whose deflected effort flew past Asmir Begovic at the Stadium of Light.
At the back, Phil Jagielka’s goal against Wigan also earned him 11 points, while honourable mentions must go to Swansea’s Scott Sinclair (12 points) and the man that Spurs fans used to hate but now love unconditionally, Emmanuel Adebayor (12 points).
Champion J-League
We didn’t even need to log on to the fantasy premier league website to check who was leading the way in the Champion J-League after events this weekend as league leader Robert Leavy took the time to send us a tweet, which read:
“Top of the table in the Champion J-League!!…….Louths answer to Alex Ferguson.”
That’s fighting talk Robert and those words are bound to be thrown back in your direction if your selection, FC Clunge, cannot maintain their current stranglehold of top spot in the league! For now, though Robert does indeed deserve to be commended for his efforts after a splendid 67 points which owed much to the performance of Manchester trio David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Nani.
Indeed, a quick glance at Robert’s team tells us that he holds the top spot in 11 of the 12 leagues he is entered in, including the rather darkly-titled Sneaky Shallow Bast**ds league.
Robert’s lead at the top is a slender one, as Anton Leong’s Knee deep UTD are only four points adrift in second place. Making up the rest of the top five are Declan McAnallen’s BlueSteal Elite, Clive Earley’s Derryowen Hawthorns and Joe McGeary’s Slamcock Rovers.
Champion J-League Top 5:
1. FC Clunge – Robert Leavy: 365 points
2. Knee deep UTD – Anton Leong: 361 points
3. BlueSteal Elite – Declan McAnallen: 360 points
4. Derryowen Hawthorns – Clive Earley: 351 points
5. Slamcock Rovers – Joe McGeary: 347 points
