Remember these beautiful bad boys?
Goalkeeper jerseys are relatively basic-looking these days compared to the glory decade of ’90s football, where designers were seemingly on a mission to create the loudest and most colourful kits known to man.
They succeeded in that endeavor, because every time we went in goal growing up playing park football, we imagined being these shot-stoppers in these particular jerseys.
With that in mind, we’re listing off 12 ‘keeper kits from yesteryear that made our eyes scream and our hearts warm.
In no particular order…
Shay Given – Ireland – 1997

David Seaman – England – 1996

Peter Schmeichel – Manchester United – 1996

Jorge Campos – Mexico

Jose Luis Chilavert – Paraguay – 1997

Shaka Hislop – Newcastle – 1996

Kevin Pressman – Sheffield Wednesday – 1995

Mark Bosnich – Aston Villa – 1995

David James – Liverpool – 1995

Neville Southall – Everton – 1996

Oliver Kahn – Bayern Munich – 1995

Gianluigi Buffon – Parma (the stylish short-sleeve craze) – 1999

They’re our 12 standouts, but what ’90s ‘keeper jerseys did you love that we missed out on here? If you have something you would like to share with us, send it to our WhatsApp number 087-4001102, editorial@JOE.ie or hit us up on Facebook or Twitter.
