Stephen Ferris had been named in the extended squad but has failed to overcome a back injury in time with Iain Henderson coming into the side as his replacement.

Fellow back-rower Nick Williams had also been rated doubtful but his rib injury has healed and takes his customary position at number 8.

Ruan Pienaar starts at scrum-half after coming off the bench last week to grab the all important bonus-point try against Castres. Paul Marshall makes way for the South African, but the Springbok has not taken his place for granted at Ravenhill.

“When I did arrive back, I was told not to put too much pressure on myself and that being put on the bench would be a good idea. While I’m still healthy I just want to play,” he said.

Glasgow will be looking for their first points of the competition after they were beaten 24-15 by Northampton at Franklins Gardens last week.

Glasgow Warriors v Ulster, Scotstoun, Friday, K.O. 8pm

Ulster XV: J Payne; T Bowe, D Cave, P Wallace, A Trimble; P Jackson, R Pienaar; T Court, R Best, J Afoa; J Muller (c), D Tuohy; I Henderson, C Henry, N Williams.
