FIFA ban Bosnia and Herzegovina over triumvirate row

The Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been suspended by FIFA and UEFA until further notice.

JOE

The Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been suspended by FIFA and UEFA until further notice.

The governing bodies of European and world football want Bosnia and Herzegovina to reduce their number of Presidents from three to one.

In the country currently, three presidents preside over two associations – one a Bosnian Serb Association, the other shared by Bosnian Croats and Bosniaks.

UEFA and FIFA have threatened the association with sanctions over their system, but Bosnia and Herzegovina have decided to continue with it in order to reflect the country’s ethnic division.

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s national team will not be allowed compete in European Championship qualifiers until the matter is resolved, while the country’s club teams have also been barred from UEFA and FIFA competition.

A joint statement by UEFA and FIFA reads: “FIFA and UEFA deeply regret that this decision had to be taken and will meet shortly to discuss the next steps required to try to bring the NSBiH back into the football family as soon as possible.”
