Lance Armstrong finally came clean about his performance-enhancing drugs to Oprah Winfrey and said he started before his cancer diagnosis.

The disgraced cyclist bared all to the chat-show queen in his home in Texas in an interview that will be aired on Thursday night (2am Friday morning Irish time).

According to USA Today, Armstrong told Winfrey that he began doping in the mid 90’s to give himself ‘an edge’ before he was diagnosed with cancer.

He also is reported to have held a 20 minute meeting with staff at the Livestrong Foundation, apologising to them for all his mistakes and tarnishing the reputation of the company.

Armstrong and his representatives also have had discussions with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency about meeting soon over several days for a “full debrief,” when Armstrong would be expected to “answer every question, give over records, telephone calls, test results, everything,” a source said.

An anonymous source has said that the interview was an emotional affair – we’re expecting crocodile tears – and is expected to gain a huge global audience.
