First Michael Conlan had his phone stolen; now his bank account’s been hacked

You’d think an Olympic hero would deserve better treatment, but not long after having his phone stolen in Coppers, Belfast Boxer Michael Conlan’s bank account has been hacked.

The 20-year old from Belfast boxed his way to a brilliant bronze medal in London earlier this month, but his homecoming was spoiled somewhat when his iPhone was nicked in Coppers on the night that he and the other Olympic heroes were hailed at a special reception at the Mansion House.

The iPhone held special significance for Michael because it contained a number of the pictures he had taken with world class athletes such as Novak Djokovic and Usain Bolt during his time in the Olympic Village as he sought to get more celebrity snaps than his fellow Belfast native and good buddy Paddy Barnes.

Conlan got over the disappointment by partying in Ibiza with Barnes shortly after his Olympic endeavours, but according to a report in The Sun today, he returned to find somebody had hacked into his bank account and had been using his details to purchase items online.

Conlan posted the following message on his Twitter page about the fraud yesterday:

There are indeed some scumbags out there and after we saw what he’s capable of at Olympics, we pity the fools in question if they ever encounter Michael face to face.

Hopefully whatever Conlan has lost can be recouped and the guilty parties are found and punished, but for the meantime, could everybody just leave poor Michael alone and let him celebrate his Olympic achievements in peace?
