All-Ireland champions Dublin were beaten by Derry on Sunday at Celtic Park, with the home side running out 1-16 to 0-13 in the Allianz National Football League, Division 1.
Mark Lynch was the hero for Derry, grabbing a personal tally of 1-08, with Jim Gavin’s men suffering their second defeat of the league campaign.
The pairs were neck and neck for most of the first half but Lynch managed to put some distance between them at the break, with a goal and a point handing Derry a four-point lead.
While Derry moved six points clear shortly after the restart, Alan Brogan was in fine form for the Dubs and the game was 0-12 to 1-12 at the end of the third quarter.
Late points from Lynch and Benny Heron sealed the win for Derry, while both sides were reduced to 14 men late on with the separate sendings off of Philly McMahon and Mark Craig.
Elsewhere in Division 1, Kerry secured a valuable win in Newbridge as they beat Kildare 2-15 to 0-15.
Mayo secured a four-point victory over Cork, 4-12 to 2-14, while Tyrone were far too strong for Westmeath at Healy Park and ran out 2-23 to 1-12 winners.
