A very positive step

A very positive step.

The Gaelic Players’ Association (GPA) are poised to publicly declare their support for a ‘Yes’ vote in the Marriage Referendum in the coming days.

According to the Irish Examiner this morning, it is understood that a text was recently sent out to GPA members that read: “Are you in favour of the GPA publicly supporting a Yes vote in the forthcoming Marriage referendum? Please reply by texting Yes or No.”

The Examiner reports that the response was about six to one in favour of a ‘Yes’ vote and that in light of that result, the GPA will imminently engage in a public campaign of support.

The GPA has not previously become directly involved in political campaigns, but a number of their members have publicly expressed support for a ‘Yes’ vote.

Former Cork hurler and GPA secretary Donal Og Cusack is a prominent supporter of a ‘Yes’ vote, as is Donegal footballer Eamon McGee, who was publicly criticised for his views by a local priest in his own county earlier this year.
