The FAI have revealed in a statement that Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane called the Gardaí after an incident at the team hotel in Portmarnock on Wednesday evening.

Earlier, it had been alleged that a fan got involved in an altercation with Keane after a projectile was thrown from a group of supporters gathered outside the hotel.

The Irish team are based at the hotel ahead of the clash against Scotland on Friday, and will fly out to Glasgow on Thursday.
