Geezer to stay, Dub player checks out American Football and Dublin living up to the stereotype

There’s only one show in town today as far as GAA news is concerned today and that’s the All-Ireland Semi-Final between Mayo and Dublin.

We’re going to start off today’s Hospital Pass though with a token nod towards other news in the world of the GAA.

Geezer to stay put

We’ve already talked elsewhere on JOE regarding the managerial departure of Tipp’s two-time Munster-winning boss Declan Ryan and this is the time of year for comings and goings of big-time managers.

One person that looks to be staying put is Kildare’s Keiran McGeeney.

Kildare had a disappointing Championship by their standards, losing to Meath in the Leinster Championship and then Cork in the All-Ireland Quarter Final.

We’re basing this on the KFM twitter account, the local radio station is quite close to the Kildare camp and are usually on the ball for these matters:

Dublin’s MacAuley gets used to heavy hits

MacAuley at the Navy practice

We brought you all the news from the Emerald Isle Classic American Football game between Notre Dame and Navy during the week and even caught up with Mike Ross and some of the Leinster rugby lads who were checking out Navy’s training at Lansdowne Rugby Club.

Dublin’s Michael Darragh MacAuley is more used to the other American sport of basketball which he plays and credits for his considerable ability in the air in football.

Maybe MacAuley was checking out the big American Football hits for himself at Navy’s practice on Friday, perhaps to prepare himself for the physicality of Mayo’s sturdy defence later on today?

The Dubs living up to the stereotype

The curtain opener for the Dublin versus Mayo match today is the All-Ireland minor semi-final between Dublin and Kerry and the Dub’s are living up to their stereotype as GAA fans.

Exhibit A is this photo from top journo Ewan MacKenna who asks about the genuine interest of Dub fans in the GAA given their small numbers at the match:

Exhibit B is this tweet, which again doesn’t paint the Jackeens in a flattering light:

Hopefully they all arrive on time for the senior match.

At least Bernard Dunne is starting his kids early on supporting their county the right way:
