The conspiracy theorists will have a field day with the news that Mario Götze has been ruled out of Saturday’s Champions League Final.

The news will come as a hammer blow to Dortmund manager Jürgen Klopp as they go into the game very much the underdogs against a highly fancied Bayern Munich outfit.

The 20 year-old has been instrumental in Dortmund’s run to the final but didn’t take full part in training yesterday and finished early and has been ruled out today. Götze injured his hamstring back on April 30th against Real Madrid and hasn’t played since leaving that match early in the first half.

“The final was my big goal and in the past weeks I have battled hard for it,” he told the club website.

“I am unbelievably sorry that I will not be able to help the team in this important match. I have huge belief in our team and will naturally travel with them to London to endeavour to support the lads off the pitch.”

Of course the fact that Götze is joining the Bavarians next season in a £31.5 million deal only adds to the bemusement from Dortmund fans though it would be a difficult start next season if he arrived after scoring the winning goal against Jupp Hynckes’ men.

There have been plenty of other quips about the injury news since it was revealed this afternoon.

Götze will now be watching on like the rest of us and either way you would think that in some ways he will be a winner no matter the outcome at Wembley.
