Terry Venables has emerged as the favourite for the Wales job, but ex-manager Bobby Gould believes the 61-year-old former England boss he would not be committed.
Venables, who is currently Chairman of Welsh League side Cambrian Sky Blues and whose mother was Welsh, has made it clear that he would be interested in the position.
Gould, however, believes caretaker boss Brian Flynn would be a better choice.
Speaking to Talksport, Gould said, “I think they’ve got the right fella in charge at the moment in Brian Flynn. He’s been there, he’s seen it and done it.
“If he wanted to appoint Terry as a consultant or as a coach then I’m sure Terry will fit that bill.
“But it’s a 24-7 job that you’ve got to be committed too, you’ve got to travel around and you’ve got to make sure you understand what the Welsh people want and where the players are coming from.
“And Brian Flynn is in front of anybody when it comes to that criteria.”
Other contenders to emerge include Chris Coleman, Dean Saunders and John Hartson.
