Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne left Irish fans and Giovanni Trapattoni sweating after sustaining a shoulder injury in yesterday’s Manchester City defeat, but how long is he out for?

The 32-year-old picked up what is suspected to be a dislocated shoulder in the dying minutes of yesterday afternoon’s game and was last night sent for full scans and X-rays to reveal the full extent the injury.

Though it won’t be until later today that we discover the ramifications of the injury, the Daily Mirror is this morning reporting that Dunne has suffered a broken collarbone. If true, the player could face a maximum of around three months on the sidelines, meaning that Dunne’s Premier League season could be over and the veteran’s Euro 2012 plans may now hang in the balance.

“Dunney’s not going to be back for the next game, that’s for sure,” offered Villa boss Alex McLeish after the defeat. “He’s definitely damaged his shoulder, which is part of the bad luck we’ve been having recently.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen with the Big Un. I do believe he will be out for at least a month. That’s serious enough.”

Another Irish and Aston Villa casualty is Ciaran Clark, who picked up a knee ligament injury during training prior to Sunday afternoon’s game. Both he and Dunne will now have to sit on the sidelines for the Irish friendly with the Czech Republic on February 29.
