All-Ireland Champions Donegal took on the best that the rest of Ulster had to offer on an emotionally charged occasion in memory of the late Michaela McAreavey.
Approximately 20,000 supporters turned out on a bitterly cold evening in Casement Park to pay tribute to the late Michaela McAreavey, daughter of Tyrone manager Mickey Harte, who died in tragic circumstances on her honeymoon in Mauritius last year.
The match was the showpiece event on an evening of Gaelic Football, music and dance, with all proceeds from the evening going to the Michaela Foundation, which seeks to inspire and encourage young people to fulfill their goals in life.
The All-Ireland Champions and an Ulster selection, managed by Joe Kernan with some help from Mickey Harte, served up a game worthy of the occasion, with Ulster emerging as one-goal winners on a 2-12 – 1-12 scoreline. Martin Penrose struck 1-3 for the victors, while Paddy McBrearty totted up a personal haul of 1-5 for Donegal.
