The biggest day of the racing calendar, Aintree Grand National Day, is upon us tomorrow. Here’s a brilliant illustrated history of the event.

Whether you go for the ‘pin sticker’ method, the ‘I like the name’ method or the ‘I’ve studied the form’ method, almost everyone in the country will have a small bet on the Grand National tomorrow.

The race is over 170 years old at this stage and the good folks at Paddy Power have put together yet another class graphic (check out their Ruby Walsh one from earlier in the week), this time to look at the race’s epic history.

From the first winner, Lottery in 1839, right up to Neptune Collanges last year, the entire story is told.

It is all part of Paddy’s plan to let you know they are paying five places tomorrow but that’s a small price to pay for this potted history. At least you’ll have lots of trivia to dazzle your mates with down the pub tonight.

For more on the race, check out Paddy’s blog here.
