Injury update for the provinces, Ulster fans look away now

There was good news on the injury front today for Leinster and Munster, but Ulster took a big blow following the weekend’s Heineken Cup action.

There was good news on the injury front today for Leinster and Munster, but Ulster took a big blow following the weekend’s Heineken Cup action.

For Leinster centre Gordon D’Arcy successfully came through 80 minutes after his recent rib injury, while Richardt Strauss received stitches to a cut on his chin, but should be okay for Saturday’s clash against the Cardiff Blues in the RaboDirect Pro12 if called upon.

Meanwhile Leinster chief Joe Schmidt hopes that Rob Kearney will be available for the clash while Quinn Roux will also continue to be assessed by the medical team.

In Munster Paul O’Connell and Donnacha O’Callaghan both came through yesterday’s whitewash over Edinburgh following their recent injury problems. Both were taken off during the match as a precautionary measure.

Casey Lualua, who had treatment for for a groin injury during the game should be for this Friday’s clash with Zebré at Thomond Park.

There was extremely bad news for Ulster however as their skipper Johann Muller had to undergo surgery yesterday to repair damage to his thumb and will be sidelined for up to two months, he suffered ruptured ligaments in the thumb  Friday’s 19-8 win over Glasgow which left Ulster top of Group 4

Connacht are reporting a few knocks, but nothing major following their impressive 22-30 losing performance against Harlequins. They also expect South African wing Danie Poolman to be available for selection for Friday’s match against the Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium.
