Ireland vs Poland: Twitter reacts to a fairly bloody bonkers first half

Another mental match

Carl Kinsella

Let us catch our breath.

We’re still in with a shout of automatic qualification as the first half draws to a close, and judging by that first half – anything could be about to happen in the second.

Poland lead us 2-1, but all we need to do is equalise to clinch that automatic qualifying spot.

Poland took the lead early on, only to concede an equaliser almost immediately in the form of a Jon Walter’s penalty.

Ireland then did their level best to give the advantage right back to Poland, who had a goal disallowed mere minutes later.

Players were diving into challenges, failing to clear their lines and kicking Shane Long in his face.

Sadly, even the best defenders in the world have struggled to keep Robert Lewandowski off the scoresheet as of late. He dutifully grabbed his goal, nodding into the corner.

All in all, a crazy first half and 45 minutes left to clinch an automatic place in France 2016. This one has a last minute O’Shea equaliser written all over it.
