Irish jockey Peter Toole was woken briefly from his induced coma as he continues his recovery from injuries sustained in a fall at Aintree on Saturday.

The 22-year old Dunshaughlin jockey suffered bleeding on the right side of his brain after Classic Fly, the 100/1 shot he was on board, fell at the first fence in the Maghull Novices’ Chase.

Toole was taken to Fazakerley Hospital, near Aintree, but was later transferred to the neighbouring Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

This morning, Charlie Mann, a trainer to whom Toole is attached gave a positive update on his recovery.

“His CT scan came back negative, which is good news,” said Mann.

“His body is OK and he woke up last night from the induced coma and he was moving his legs.

‘They then put him back under in the night and he should be coming out of that again this morning.

“I’ve spoken to his father this morning and it is a case of so far, so good. Everything is as good as it can be at this stage. They’ll do some tests on him when he has woken up.”
