Irish referee Alan Kelly has been named the MLS ‘Referee of the Year’. The award is decided by club officials, members of the media and players – Kelly topped the polls in all three categories.

Kelly, who started his refereeing career in Cork and reffed for the FAI for 14 years, is now into his second season in the MLS and is clearly making a name for himself.
The Irishman refereed 21 MLS games last season, the second most of any official.
Could he be the next Pierluigi Collina?
