Irish team at the Homeless World Cup off to a sensational start

And we thought John O'Shea was the Irish soccer story of the week.

JOE

And we thought John O’Shea was the Irish soccer story of the week.

The 2014 Homeless World Cup kicked off yesterday in Chile and Ireland got off to the sort of start that makes what Southampton did to Sunderland look like a close affair.

The Irish team, run by the Big Issue Street League, hammered Greece 11-1 in their opening fixture in Group F. Yes, 11-1.

Next up is Mexico, who Ireland face this afternoon. The Mexicans put 15 goals past Wales in their opener so their clash with the Boys in Green should be an absolute goal fest.

Best of luck lads.
