Could Brian O’Driscoll be off to play Super 15 rugby in Australia? Not yet mate, is the message from the Irish talisman today.
There had been some talk of O’Driscoll sauntering off to sunnier climes to hook up with former Leinster coach and friend Michael Cheika of late.
The Ireland captain was been linked with a move to the New South Wales Waratahs, where Cheika has recently been appointed as head coach after a spell in France.
Cheika himself has said that he would like to approach his former captain in the future, while O’Driscoll hasn’t exactly dismissed the notion in the past.
Speaking at a Leinster press conference today ahead of the Heineken Cup clash with Llanelli Scarlets this weekend, O’Driscoll, who will captain Ireland in Test clashes against South Africa and Argentina this November, said that the possibility was a lot more remote than has been made out.
“I’ve always said “never say never.” But it’s certainly not on my to do list at the moment. I don’t know if I’m playing beyond June,” the Ireland captain said.
“I’m contracted until then, so I’m enjoying things at the moment and I’ve no plans or desires at the moment to be heading over there and I haven’t spoken to anyone about it.”
It seems, at the present time at least, that O’Driscoll won’t be emigrating down under.
