He has worked his way back into some sort of form so is Stephen Ireland on his way back to the Irish team? The Villa man is waiting for Trap to call.
After being best known for bad tattoos, extravagant home furnishings and a shiny head for the last few years, Stephen Ireland has finally got his game back and has started to produce the goods on the field again.
This has, inevitably, led to people starting to wonder about the Cork man making a late push for inclusion in the Irish squad for Euro 2012.
But those of you who never want to see Ireland in green again should be okay as Ireland has put the ball back in Trap’s court with his latest comments.
“It’s not something I think about,” Ireland is quoted as saying in today’s Irish Sun regarding a return to the international game. “I’ve not been approached in over two years so it’s not really a question I have to answer.
“It is not a question that has come to me and I’ll see when it does come to me. Other than that I will just concentrate on my club football.”
As always with Ireland the message could be interpreted in a number of ways but it sounds to us like a call from the old Italian could get former Man City man to reconsider but we also know that Trap thinks it is up to the player to make the first move.
When the two met in 2008 to try and resolve this we know both sides left the meeting even more upset with the other. We also know that Trap values harmony in his squad.
Unless Ireland turns into Leo Messi in the second half of the season, we reckon Trap won’t risk wrecking the trip to Poland by bringing in the troublesome midfielder.
Don’t wait up for that call then Stephen.
