A massive blow for Martin O’Neill’s men…
With all the news of Roy Keane, ‘fans’ and books emerging from Ireland’s training camp some people might have taken their eye off the bigger issue, a massive match with Scotland this Friday.
Martin O’Neill has been dealt a massive blow with the news that James McCarthy and Glenn Whelan have both returned to their clubs after failing to prove their fitness in time.
Everton’s McCarthy has struggled with a hamstring injury all season and it was further aggravated in the Toffee’s draw with Sunderland.
Stoke midfielder Glenn Whelan was training with the team yesterday in a bid to recover from the leg fracture he suffered in Germany but it seems the Scotland game has come too soon.
O’Neill so far hasn’t announced any late call-ups to the squad. More to follow.
