Wolves midfielder Jamie O’Hara has admitted that he would consider playing international football for the Republic of Ireland.

O’Hara was born and raised in London, but has Irish grandparents and has revealed that he would be ‘definitely interested’ in pulling on a green jersey if approached about playing for Ireland.

“I’m not sure if I can play but I’m definitely interested,” O’Hara told TalkSport.

“I’ve got a big Irish family and they’re always phoning me up saying come and play for Ireland. So if I get the phone call, it’s something I’d look at.”

O’Hara has been capped seven times for the England under-21’s, but has not featured for the senior side and would therefore be eligible to make the switch.

The 24-year old is currently on loan at Wolves from Tottenham Hotspur, whom he joined as a youth player in 2003. He has failed to break into the Spurs team on a regular basis, but has enjoyed impressive loan spells with Chesterfield, Millwall and most notably Portsmouth, whom he helped to the FA Cup final last year.

O’Hara is blessed with a brilliant left foot and has a deadly delivery from set-pieces. Giovanni Trapattoni has reportedly expressed his admiration for O’Hara in the past and with O’Hara publicly expressing his interest in playing for Ireland, the ball is now firmly in the Italian’s court.

Should O’Hara make the move, Irish fans would be excited at the potential appearance at the Aviva Stadium of Danielle Lloyd, a former Miss England who is O’Hara’s fiancée and the mother of his child, Archie.
