JOE reader snuck into Coppers on Monday by pretending to be with the Ireland squad

Tony Cuddihy

This JOE reader deserves our applause.

He was standing in the queue for Copper Face Jacks on Monday night, and as you can probably imagine there was quite the clamour to get into Dublin’s favourite late night watering hole.

Just when he thought, “feck this for a feed of sausages and rashers,” our friend noticed some familiar faces just breezing into the Harcourt Street venue.

Yep, the victorious Irish squad. He paints quite the picture…

“After the match Monday night I was outside the queue for Coppers,” he tells us.

“The line was so long really wasn’t up for waiting 20-30 minutes just to get in. Anyway I look to my left and I see most of the Irish players being shown the way into the club. I jump out of the queue and walk in behind Ciaran Clark.

“Somehow I managed to get past all the bouncers and security and got up to the lounge with all the players and coaches. Still having my flag and jersey on I had to take them off in fear of standing out too much.

“Anyway I spent the night drinking and talking with all the players. It was an open bar and the players and coaches were feeding me drink. I asked one player to do a shot with me and he put down a full pint of Heineken and said ‘if you can down this in one go I’ll do a shot with you.’

Long

“I was telling a few of the other players how I got in and they told me they hoped to read it on JOE.ie in the morning so I said I might as well send it in.

“I had 1% battery so I only got two pictures. The picture of me with Shane Long was taken by David Forde. Great bunch of lads they are.”
