5. Adel Taarabt (Morocco v Tanzania)

Although QPR’s start to the Premier League season has been erratic, the form of star man Adel Taarabt has been one of the few bright sparks for the newcomers. Taarabt and fellow Premier League star Maroune Chamakh (perhaps ‘star’ is a little generous for him) were on the scoresheet in a victory over Tanzania but as you can imagine, Taarabt’s goal was a lot better.

4. Lucas Lobos (Tigres v Pumas)

When two of the best-named animal-related clubs have a showdown in the Mexican league, you’ll hope that at least one player with an equally ludicrous name makes a mark for themselves. Step forward Lucas Lobos; while his name may be silly, his right foot from a free kick certainly isn’t.

3. Nacer Barazite (Austria U21 v Holland U21)

Former Arsenal youth player and footballer with the best-ever surname that sounds like a fictional precious mineral, Nacer Bazarite, was on the scoresheet at the weekend with this classy finish in a Dutch U21 game.

See? Somebody does actually watch those U21 games and occasionally, as evidenced below, it can be worth it.

2. Clint Dempsey (USA v Honduras)

Team USA triumphed over Honduras in a 1-0 friendly victory – a perfect start to new manager Jurgen Klinsmann’s reign. The game was won by some excellent finishing from Clint Dempsey, after two US players meant to miss the ball beforehand.

1. Alan Dzagoev (Slovakia v Russia)

If your hopes of topping your Euro 2012 qualifying group are going to be dashed, they may as well be dashed in style, as Ireland’s were on Friday night.

Dzagoev’s winner in the Slovakia v Russia was completely unsavable – largely due to a lucky deflection – but it was a stonking goal all the same.
