The Thyestes Chase is the centerpiece at Gowran Park on Saturday and it’s difficult to see the favouritism for Pomme Tiepy being justified.
Willie Mullins’ eight-year-old tailed off in this race last year and I can’t see him landing the big money. Conor O’Dywer’s charge HANGOVER is a much more interesting prospect. He’s been finding his feet over these obstacles as a latecomer and he’s good each-way value for the prolific Gigginstown House string.
Take a look also at Mullins’ Midnight Club who will be knocking on the door. He carries a lot of weight but did very well in a Grade 1 last time out and will definitely fit enough for this test.
Over at Asoct, the Victor Chandler Chase must go to Master Minded, but he’ll be a certain odds-on favourite.
For a value bet in this one go with PETIT ROBIN. Nicky Henderson’s yard can hardly put a foot wrong lately and Barry Geraghty will be confident of getting very close at a decent price.
Looking to Sunday, HURRICANE FLY can continue his hold on Solwhit in the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown. My suggestion is that you back this class act to win the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in March before he hits the track this Sunday.
And finally, chance a cheeky little reverse forecast in the 1.45 Arkle Novice Chase on REALT DUBH and SALUDOS.
Jessica Harrington’s lad fell the last time when contesting with Realt Dubh and, had he stayed up, he would have pushed his rival all the way. A repeat without the slip-up is on the cards.
