Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle should be fit to face Macedonia in the crucial Euro 2012 qualifier in Skopje in June.
The Wolves striker is aiming to be back in time for the Carling Nations Cup clashes with Scotland and Northern Ireland at the end of May despite the fact that he is pessimistic about playing any part for Wolves for the rest of the season as they battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Doyle suffered a knee ligament injury in the 2-1 defeat of Macedonia at the Aviva Stadium last month and Wolves have suffered in his absence, losing their last two games 4-1 to Newcastle and 3-0 to Everton.
Although he is aware that his club manager Mick McCarthy may not be happy if Doyle fails to recover in time to play any part for Wolves this season and then goes and plays for Ireland, Doyle is determined to turn out for his country next month.
“If I don’t play for Wolves again this season, I don’t suppose the manager will be too happy to see me get fit and disappear for my country,” Doyle told Sky Sports.
“But I’m going to try to make it.”
The news will be a boost to Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni, who could be without Leon Best for the Macedonia game after the Newcastle striker was ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing ankle surgery.
